About Us

DR3 stands for Divert, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and it's our mission to do as much of it as possible!

Since 1999 we've recycled over a million mattresses in Oregon and California, and continue to expand our Oregon collection sites.

DR3 Recycling stands out for our extensive experience and unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.

When DR3 Recycling started its first Mattress Recycling facility in California, there were no other commercially viable mattress recycling facilities in the world.  Terry McDonald, the Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County (now Emeritus Director) saw a viable opportunity to divert mattresses from the landfill while providing jobs and supporting the non-profit services of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County.  It was a big risk and took a lot of trial and error, but the endeavor was a sucess and has since expanded in California and Oregon, and mattress recycling has since gained popularity in 30 out of 50 states in the U.S.

Who We Are

Our Mission

What we believe in

DR3 Recycling operates as an extension of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County (SVdP) , a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization since 1953 that works to provide a social safety net through innovative solutions, services, partnerships, and social justice while incorporating the entrepreneurial spirit and environmental stewardship.  DR3 Recycling helps SVdP endure as a self-sustaining organization by funding our own future.       Read more about SVdP

Our work helps fund our mission

Affordable Housing

Our team of highly skilled and experienced homelessness services staff has a long history of developing and managing affordable housing projects.  We've worked to acquire and rehabilitate mobile home parks, and managed hundreds of government and foundation grants to help build much-needed housing for vulnerable community members.  Housing is designed to bridge the gap between homelessness and long-term shelter.

Shelter Services

SVdP's shelter services help families and individuals facing homelessness and offer safe sleep sites, safe parking programs, family shelters, and severe weather shelters.

Self-Sufficiency Services

We provide resources to help people move out of poverty and into stability through programs that teach people how to gain work experience, build job-retention skills, and repair damaged rental history.  SVdP hires people with barriers to employment, providing wages above the minimum requirement and offering benefits such as health insurance.

Meals

Last year, SVdP provided 179,927 meals across their shelter programs, and distributed 2,000 holiday food boxes to community members.

Waste Diversion

By diverting reusable products from the landfill through recycling programs and thrift stores, SVdP is able to fund their mission and services.  Along with mattresses, we also divert clothing and household items, electronics, polystyrene (Styrofoam), books, wax, and other items.

Meet the people who make mattress recycling their mission.  There a lot of moving parts to mattress recycling - from logistics and data entry to finding commodity markets and booking freight.  The DR3 team is a group of people who are passionate about making a difference both socially and environmentally.

Our Team

Our partners play a vital part in recycling.  By partnering with other non-profits, municipalities, transfer sites, retailers, hotels, universities, and other recyclers, we ensure that the maximum number of mattresses is diverted from landfills.
