Our Experience

Founded in 1999, DR3 was the first commercially viable mattress recycling company in the United States, and continues to be one of the largest mattress recyclers in North America.

Working in partnership with local transfer stations, landfills, hotels, retailers, schools, military bases, retailers, schools, and other business, we collect mattresses and boxsprings for recycling in California and Oregon.

Recycle with DR3

What's in a Mattress?

About 75% of a typical mattress can be recycled.   A mattress has four primary components that can be recycled:

Steel: melted and recast as new items

Foam: primarily used in carpet padding

Cotton: used in insulation

Wood: composted, or used as fuel

Our Process

Employees at DR3 deconstruct each mattress by hand and remove and separate each material - steel, wood, foam, and cotton.  Each material is then baled and prepared to be sold on the commodity market. This process is labor intensive, but ensures that the maximum amount of material is recycled and saved from the landfill.
